Reshe Dining Chair

Scandinavian Modernism inspired _Lounge chair made with Indian hard woods(Timber and Bent ply)

  • ABOUT

I have been reading about Scandinavian modernism since I was in my second year of the university.

The idea of making products Functional, Simple, Aesthetic, and Affordable is what got my attention. I started collecting information in fragments by reading more about the Scandinavian designers and their experiences and how this design movement reached the corners of this mighty world.

While doing so one of the things that I realized was the importance of Wooden grains.
The grain of the wood is probably the most important part of the wood as it determines its strength and texture.

Scandinavian products are usually made out of pale woods due to their abundance in that region, also the region stays cold throughout the year and so using pale woods gives a sense of warmth to the beholder.

Living in India, with an abundance of different varieties of woods I wanted to experiment by merging Scandinavian design ideology with Indian hardwoods and other elements of Mother Nature in the most honest way.

The legs of the char chair are made of solid charred timber and the back with bent ply draped with acacia veneer.

Plywood is arguably the most modern design artifact: it is a material born of natural wood and formed by vigorous industrial processes that can assume the most organic of shapes through bending, laminating, and molding. plywood truly fulfills the most modern of dreams: bridging the gap between technology and nature.
